What's the difference between a button and a button cover?

Buttons have glass backs to sew directly to the fabric (the art glass is mounted to the button back with silicone), button covers, are larger pieces of art glass, siliconed to a metal button cover finding that attach to your piece by slipping onto a standard size shirt button you sew in place. This allows easy removal for washing or cleaning the garment or artwork.
